HALO : Higher Ed Experience!

Heartland Community Colleges, Heartland Academy for Learning Opportunities (HALO) Program provides the higher education experience to those individuals with developmental or intellectual delays between the ages of 18 – 28. The Program offers a variety of life skills and learning experiences such as the ability to self-advocate, how to engage in the college setting, make independent decisions, and develop independence and time managements skills. Students are on campus two days a week with some guidance while also being able to make independent decisions outside of class time.

 

Courses provided in the HALO program include but are not limited to reading and writing for life, math for life, computer technology, social development, health and wellness, cooking skills, and money skills. Class cost range from $400 - $500 a class, with the possibility of semester scholarships. Student typically take two classes a semester and the program itself is a two-semester program.
